During her long career as a principal artist, Gina Patterson was known as a versatile, consummate performer, dancing with Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Pittsburgh Opera, Ballet Austin, Ballet Florida, and as a guest artist around the world. Her passionate dedication to a lifetime in dance has given her extensive experience in the field.
Ms. Patterson has created over 90 original works, including 13 full-evening productions, winning international acclaim and such honors as the Choo San Goh Award, a nomination for an Isadora Duncan Award, National Society of Arts and Letters, the Hubbard Street 2 National Choreographic Competition, New Choreographers on Pointe, and the National Choreographic Initiative. Her works appear in the repertoire of more than 20 companies including Croatian National Theatre, Nashville Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, Ballet Austin, Richmond Ballet, Dayton Ballet, BalletMet, Ballet Concierto, and DanceWorks Chicago and have been presented internationally in Italy, Germany, Slovenia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Cuba and Spain. Original creations, the Emmy-winning Liquid Roads for MADCO, and her contemporary adaptation of Romeo and Juliet for CoDa21, continue to tour domestically and internationally.
Ms. Patterson educates through classes, creativity workshops and multidisciplinary collaboration with young artists at Interlochen Arts Academy, Arts Umbrella Vancouver, Point Park University, Goucher College, the University of Iowa, and Ballet San Angelo among others. Since 2009, she has been the artistic director of VOICE, and continues to inspire and advocate for empathy and compassion through her work as a choreographer, leader, educator, and creative artist.
